Adey SteelShop Plays Role in Leicester Development Project
One of the recent projects Adey SteelShop was involved with was featured on BBC News – East Midlands Today in last night's 6.30 pm episode (29th March 2022). The Waterside development sees more than 300 new homes on the edge of the city centre – which forms part of the major changes in Leicester over the past 7 years. The mayor of Leicester introduced the changes as part of a strategy to regenerate Industrial land along the River Soar, but it also forms part of the improvements to overcome the housing crisis currently present within the UK. Additionally, the quality of the development has opened up the areas to new visitors – increasing the attraction of the city.
The Waterside housing development includes 1–2-bedroom apartments and 2–4-bedroom homes – opening up a whole new part of the city to Urban living. The location benefits from excellent transport connections with easy access to the M1 and direct lines to reach St Pancras in 90minutes. This supports the government's wider plan to help spread economic growth throughout the country by making the capital more accessible to the Northern areas of the country.
The Adey SteelShop scope within the project included:
-Juliette Balconies
-Walk on Balconies
-Internal Stair Balustrades
-External Railings – in the main view of the curved block including the Gate to the side.
The Waterside development is situated next to another key project the Adey SteelShop team were involved in back in 2015. We provided the tall chimney structures for the redevelopment of Friars Mill which formed part of an episode of ‘The Hairy Builder’ series with the ‘Hairy Bikers’. The project brought back to life a derelict wool mill – one of Britain’s leading textile factories in the 20th century – transforming the building into offices.
We are proud to have been part of such a key development within Leicester as the changes will help to shape the future of the city.
